Hail OUR ‘Glorious Leader’
After the remarkable success of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, it seems almost everyone wants to cash in on the Modi wave. In the spirit of celebrating the formation of the new government under our Glorious Leader Shri Narendra Modi, Milestone Interactive has published an amazing Android game called ‘Modi Tsu’namo’. With such an original name one might think the Ninemiles developed game would involve generation of colossal Modi shaped vote tsunamis that can be directed to sweep his opponents from constituencies all over India.
However one mustn’t let their imagination get too far ahead of themselves in order to be satisfied with a time-bound game of matching tiles. Especially when those tiles are covered by some skilfully drawn caricatures of our Glorious Leader and his competitors for power Rahul Gandhi, Arvind Kejriwal and Mamata Banerjee.
Getting rid of the Kejris and Gandhis
Being a Match 3 type game one must slide their finger to connect three or more matching tiles to remove them from the board just like the previous government has been removed from power. Connecting five or more tiles grants a special tile whose glowing green border marks it out as so obscuring the caricature underneath in the process, and confusing it with one of the green background Kejriwal tiles in the process. Matching two or more of these special tiles grants a Bomb that clears nine tiles around it when triggered besides giving a boost to the score.
In the eventuality that you play this game long enough and fail to find a match, it provides a helpful hint by highlighting one on the board. There also appear random Lotuses to get rid of a single tile on the board that can optionally be triggered by touching. Another seemingly Random powerup is one that clears the row and column it appears on and requires to be triggered. The game also goes into what it calls ‘Insane Multiplier’ mode if you are quick about matching tiles. To keep this mode going one must be accurate with their matching.
The game seems to have a timed run of about a minute which is preceded by an unskipable pop up providing helpful tips about the game. These are so fun to read that you would wish the developers had thought of more or had the inspiration to add a skip button. The game ends with fireworks and the whole board is covered by the face of our Glorious Leader. This is followed by the game telling you how well you fared and giving you the option of sharing your great success on Facebook. The game isn’t infested much by advertising yet except for a friendly reminder to have a looksee at other Milestone published games at the Start and end of every game.
Bahut Achche Din Aanewale Hai (no, really)
The game has some marvellous artwork using our Glorious Leader’s party’s colours of Saffron and Green. It does suffer from some very minor problems like the timer never being visible nor the score though we can see the detailed rendering of the score window. There also seems to be a placeholder bar that might be a rather green pond going by all the lotuses atop it. One must not hope to play this game with their thumb unless playing on a large tablet given the rather tiny size of the tiles on the board. Nor should one expect the game to save their sound settings over multiple runs, given the brilliant variety of sounds it packs. And since the game is a celebration of victory one must be obliged to listen to the post match fireworks despite muting the sound. One can only hope that the tagline ‘Achche Din Aanewale Hain’ that is hammered all over holds true for this game as well.
