NVIDIA launches mainstream GeForce GTX 760

Amid the successive launches of GeForce GTX 780 and GTX 770, NVIDIA has today officially launched the GeForce GTX 760 graphics processing unit. This is the mainstream GPU of the GTX 700 series, and possibly will be the highest selling and de-facto first choice of buyers, since it is aimed at providing quality performance at a budget price. NVIDIA’s official pricing revealed for the GTX 760 is INR 19, 499 i.e. roughly $340. The launch price in the US is $249 (which is lower than the price of the GTX 660 Ti). Once again, like the GTX 780, GTX 770 and the GTX Titan, the Indian launch price is way higher than their American compatriots.

The specifications of the GeForce GTX 760 are:

The GTX 760, like the other released GPUs in the GTX 700 series features an adaptive temperature controller to minimise fan speed fluctuations, for stable fan speeds leading to less perceived noise.

In the illustration above we can that the fluctuations in the fan speed are far less than that of previous generation fan controllers. This owes to a stable fan performance leading to lesser fan noise, an issue that has riddled GPU manufacturers since years.

The performance increase compared to the previous generation GPUs in the same segment are illustrated in the figure below. The increase in performance compared to the GTX 560 is almost double. NVIDIA hasn’t shared the increase in performance of the GTS 760 against the GTX 660, but we suspect that to be somewhere close to 40%. We’ll have to wait for accurate figures until we benchmark the card.

Other game performance numbers have been shared by NVIDIA but we shall refrain from sharing them at this moment, we will do so when we test the card ourselves.

The GeForce GTX 760 is aimed at directly replacing the GeForce GTX 660 Ti, a card we liked a lot. And since the GTX 770 completely surpassed the GTX 680, it puts the GTX 670 in a tough position. It’s time to bid farewell to the GTX 670 now, as it offers no considerable value.

We will be benchmarking the card as soon as it reached our office, and will post comparison figures against the highly popular GeForce GTX 660Ti.
